Privacy Policy
Last updated October 2, 2026
Closures is operated by Dalton Sutton. This policy covers the Closures app for iPhone and iPad and the website at https://closures.app (together, “Closures”). It explains what information is handled, why, who else receives it, how long it is kept, and how you can delete it or withdraw permission.
Closures is built to need as little about you as possible. There is no account, no advertising, and no tracking. The app works if you never share your location and never turn on notifications. The Terms of Service explain the license for the app.

Information that stays on your device
Some information is used only on your iPhone or iPad. It is not sent to us. Under Apple’s definition, information that never leaves the device is not collected, and it is not listed in the App Store privacy details.
Location
If you allow location access, Closures uses your location on your device to show closings and delays near you first. You can decline. Declining does not lock any other part of the app. You can enter a Home Area ZIP code instead. That ZIP code stays on your device and is used the same way. We never receive your precise location or your ZIP code.
The saved feed
A copy of the closings feed is saved on your device so Closures can open when you are offline. Sorting and filtering that feed, including Near Me, happens on the device.
Closures does not ask for access to your contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or health data, and it does not use Apple’s advertising identifier.
Information we receive
We receive information in two cases: when you turn on notifications, and in ordinary server logs when the app or the website contacts our servers.
Notification registration
Notifications are optional. If you allow them, the app registers that installation with our server so we can tell you when an organization you follow changes status. The registration contains:
- a random install ID created by the app, which is not your name, Apple ID, email address, or phone number;
- the push notification token Apple provides for that device;
- the organizations you follow;
- your notification settings;
- your time zone, language, and the app and iOS versions, so a notification arrives in the right form.
Your location, ZIP code, name, and Apple ID are not part of this registration. A notification contains the public announcement: the organization, the status, and the station’s report. It does not contain private information about you.
Server logs
When the app or the website contacts our servers, the request can be logged. A log entry may include the IP address, the date and time, the address requested, and basic technical details needed to answer the request. We use logs to keep Closures secure and reliable, including defending the service against abuse. We do not use them to locate you, to build a profile, or to find out who you are, and we do not copy IP addresses into the notification registration.
Closings and weather
Closings, delays, station information, and weather are information about places and organizations. The app downloads them from our servers. Weather is National Weather Service information about a place, not about you. Those downloads do not include your precise location or ZIP code.
This website
You can read closures.app without an account. The site does not use advertising or analytics cookies, and it does not ask you to create a profile. A visit produces the server log described above and nothing else we keep.
App Store privacy details
Apple requires the privacy details on the App Store to match this policy. “Collect” means information sent off the device and kept longer than it takes to answer that request. Closures collects the following, and only for app functionality. None of it is used to track you. It is stored with the install ID, so it can be connected to an installation of the app. That is why the App Store may describe it as data linked to you. We do not connect it to your name or to an account. There is no account.
- Identifiers — Device ID. The install ID and the Apple push token.
- Usage Data — Product Interaction. The organizations you follow and your notification settings.
- Diagnostics — Other Diagnostic Data. The app version, the iOS version, and security logs, which can include an IP address.
- Other Data — Other Data Types. Time zone and language.
The privacy details should not list precise location, contact information, health or financial information, contacts, photos, search history, browsing history, purchases, or advertising data. Closures does not include analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting code from other companies.
How we use information
We use the notification registration to send the notifications you turned on, in the language and time zone of the device. We use server logs to operate, secure, and troubleshoot Closures.
We do not use this information for advertising, marketing, or ad measurement, and we do not build a marketing profile from it. We do not use it for a new purpose without updating this policy first. Where the law or Apple’s rules require permission for a new use, we will ask before doing it.
Who else receives information
We do not sell your information. We do not share it with advertising networks, data brokers, or third-party artificial-intelligence services.
Apple
Notifications are delivered by Apple Push Notification service. Apple receives the device token and the text of the notification in order to deliver it. We do not send Apple your location. Apple’s handling of information is described in Apple’s Privacy Policy. Information Apple collects on its own through the App Store, TestFlight, and iOS is governed by Apple, not by this policy.
Hosting
Companies that host Closures process information only on our instructions, and only to run the service. Any third party we share information with must protect it to the same or an equal standard as this policy and as Apple’s App Store Review Guidelines require. They may not use it for their own advertising or sell it.
Legal reasons and a transfer of Closures
We may disclose information if the law requires it, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect someone’s safety, to investigate abuse of the service, or to defend a legal claim. If Closures is transferred to a new operator, the registration data needed to keep notifications working may transfer with it, and the new operator must honor this policy. We will update this page if that happens.
Tracking, advertising, and sales
We do not track you, as Apple defines tracking. We do not link information from Closures with information from other companies’ apps or websites for advertising or ad measurement, and we do not share it with a data broker. The app does not request permission to track you across other companies’ apps and websites, because it does not do that.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not “share” it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those words are used in the California Consumer Privacy Act. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.
How long we keep it, and how to delete it
There is no account, so there is no account to delete inside the app. You can still delete the information we hold about an installation, and you can withdraw permission at any time. Nothing in Closures is locked behind a requirement that you allow location or notifications.
- Notification registration. We keep it while notifications are on. When you turn off notifications for Closures in iOS Settings, the app removes the push token from our server. When you reset the app from its Settings, we delete that installation’s registration and the list of organizations you follow.
- Ask us to delete it. Email [email protected] and ask us to delete your registration. Tell us what you can, such as when you installed Closures and which organizations you followed. If the app shows an install ID in Settings, include it. We will delete the registration we can match within 30 days. If we cannot find a matching record, we will tell you. We may keep a particular record longer only when the law requires it, or when we need it to investigate a security incident, and only for that purpose.
- Deleting the app. Removing Closures from your device deletes the location, ZIP code, and saved feed stored on that device. Reset the app, or email us, if you also want the notification registration removed from our server.
- Location. Turning location off in iOS Settings stops any further use of location on the device. There is no copy on our servers to delete.
- Server logs. We delete logs within 30 days, unless we need a specific log to investigate abuse, a security incident, or a legal claim. Logs are not filed under your name.
Children
Closures is a general-audience app. It is not directed to children under 13, and it is not offered in the App Store’s Kids Category. We do not ask for a child’s name, email address, or birth date. Following a school stores the school, not a child’s identity.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, email [email protected] and we will delete it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we hold. No method of sending or storing information is completely secure.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, including California and other U.S. states, you may have the right to know what information we hold, to correct it, to delete it, to receive a copy, and to appeal a decision about a request. You will not be treated differently for asking.
Because Closures has no account, we usually hold nothing we can tie to your name. The practical way to use these rights is the deletion steps above, or an email to [email protected]. We may ask for details we need to find the right installation and to avoid deleting someone else’s. An authorized agent may submit a request for you if the agent shows authority to act. If we deny a request, we will say why and how to appeal by replying to that email.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, Dalton Sutton is the controller of the information described here. We process the notification registration to provide the notifications you asked for. We process server logs because of our legitimate interest in keeping Closures secure and reliable. The iOS prompts are how you agree to on-device location use and to notifications, and you can withdraw that agreement in iOS Settings. You may also object to processing that is based on legitimate interests, ask us to restrict processing, and lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. We are based in the United States. Information described in this policy may be processed in the United States and in other countries where we or our hosting providers operate.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above. If a change materially affects information we have already collected, we will post the update before that change takes effect.
