The Biggest Update Since Launch

Closures moved from PHP to Next.js, runs about eight times faster, and adds real-time COVID-19 statistics for each state.

Every year I use Closures App as a “guinea pig” for what new things I’ve learned and try to update it, so I can say I have “real-world experience” with whatever new thing I learned and in the last two weeks, I’ve been teaching myself Next.js.

Happy to say that Closures just got it’s biggest update since launching 6 years ago. I’ve switched from using PHP to now using React.js (Next.js) and I’m seeing a huge performance boost. It’s now averaging around 8 times faster than the previous version. I refactored the front-end and improved the API and I couldn’t be happier. Mostly behind the scenes stuff, but I’m pretty stoked.

I also added in some real-time Covid-19 stats per state in a new panel. (Kinda late on that one.)

Check it out if you’re in need of knowing your local closings and delays, weather, and now Covid-19 stats.
